Thousands of selfless individuals across the globe dedicate hours of valuable time to helping others in various communities on line and off line. The MHP award was established to recognize their invaluable contribution and potentially encourage even more people to contribute to the communities of their choice.

How does it work? One MHP designation will be awarded each month for each category based on the number of votes that potential MHPs receive for their contributions (articles, blog entries, responses to user group questions, etc.). The threshold for the MHP of the Month designation is one thousand votes and the threshold for the MHP of the Year designation is twelve thousand votes.

What are the awards? Currently the awards are set at $1,000 for the MHP of the Month and $5,000 for the MHP of the year. However, as the number of participants grows we intend to increase those awards significantly.

Can I be awarded the MHP designation more than once? Yes, there are no limitations in how many times you may be awarded the MHP designation – the goal is to award the MHP designation every month to that individual who has truly been the most helpful professional for that month.

What constitutes a contribution? A contribution to the on-line community can take various forms such as articles, blog entries, responses to user group questions, web sites – in short any original content that is provided free of charge to the community.

Can a url be associated with more than one MHP candidate? Yes. Multiple individuals may contribute to a discussion on a user group and all contributions are accessible under the same url so when you vote for a contribution and provide the url to that contribution you are also asked to specify the MHP candidate you are attributing that contribution to.

Are the votes counted based on contribution date or vote date? It does not matter when a contribution was published, it is when someone benefits from it that matters and the vote date is the closest approximation of the benefit date so we use the vote date.

Who can become an MHP? Anyone who contributes to the community is eligible to compete for MHP of the Month and MHP of the Year in any of the available categories. There is no restriction on the number of categories one can compete on. If you wish to compete you will need to create an account…

Who can vote? Anyone who benefits from the above mentioned contributions is eligible to vote. You do not need to register in order to vote. The system is an honor based system with minimal supervision – we ask that you only vote once for a given contribution. If the contributor has provided a “vote for me” link at the end of his contribution you can simply click on it. If such link has not been provided you can still vote but the voting in this case is a bit more cumbersome.

How do you ensure there is no fraudulent voting? The only mechanism we use to prevent fraudulent double voting are the cookies which are easy to bypass. We will however thoroughly review the votes received by the candidate with the highest number of votes and if any signs of fraudulent activity are observed the candidate may be eliminated and the next in line may get the award.

Who pays for those prizes? Every month a sponsor will be carefully selected for each category. The sponsor will have exclusivity on the given category for the whole month and will cover the cost of the award.

Why should I compete for the MHP award? In addition of the potential cash award that will gradually become significant great satisfaction can be derived when your selfless contribution is recognized by those who benefit from it.

Please consider becoming a contributor to communities of your choice - everyone possesses knowledge and wisdom that others desperately need and would be grateful for and it’s a shame to keep that knowledge and wisdom locked in our brains!
